Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation
The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1979. Its main purpose is the operation of its two museums, in Athens and the island of Andros, as well as the promotion of visual arts at national and international level. Its founders and inspirers were Basil and Elise Goulandris who were passionate about art and firmly believed that modern and contemporary art should be accessible to everyone.
The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation which is in the center of Athens was designed to house the Foundation’s Collection, one of the most important private collections to be assembled in the course of the second half of the 20th century. The Collection includes rare works of art by masters of the European avant-garde such as Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Monet, Degas, Rodin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard, Picasso, Braque, Léger, Kandinsky, Miró, Giacometti and Balthus as well as works by distinguished Greek artists including Parthenis, Bouzianis, Vassiliou, Hadjikyriakos-Ghika, Tsarouchis, Moralis, Tetsis, Takis, Chryssa, Stamos and others.
The Foundation also organizes temporary exhibitions, educational programs and cultural events, using advanced museological methods in modern and contemporary art.
Auditorium
The Foundation’s state-of-the-art, 187-seat amphitheater is situated at level -3. Featuring a projector system and large projector as well as complete audiovisual equipment, it is further equipped with its own foyer and cloakroom.
Accessibility
Social inclusion is a key priority for the B&E Goulandris Foundation, whose aim is to welcome all people, regardless of age or background, and ensure that a visit to the Museum is a unique experience for everyone. With that in mind, the Foundation has been implementing and constantly enriches various programs that are tailored to different social groups, firmly believing that the power of art and culture encourages the meaningful coexistence of many different groups.
People with Disabilities
Wheelchair access to the Foundation is easy and the building has spacious lifts, which allow access to all areas.
Wheelchairs for people with reduced mobility are available free of charge in the cloakroom.
Autism and sensory processing issues
The Foundation is accessible to people with ASD and people with sensory disabilities or impairment. The Foundation’s program for neurodivergent persons includes special signage, a sensory map, a social story as well as sensory kits that are available at the reception area.
